Why We Can Trust The Bible

3/12/2020

Picture
What if they say… How can I trust the Bible? Or, I don’t believe the Bible.

This could come up before or while you are sharing the Gospel. The Bible is our source of authority so how can we give a simple response? One that is easy enough to remember yet compelling enough for our listeners to consider.

Here are several things you can say (in your own words). One or several may be sufficient.

But get the Prophecy illustration down well.
  • Transformed Lives – One thing that helps us trust the Bible is the positive effect it has had on individuals and societies. It has sobered drunkards and turned cannibal tribes into peace loving neighbors.
  • Documented Proof – Of all the ancient books, the Bible has scores more reliable manuscripts (copies) than any other that support the accuracy of the Bible.
  • Historical Accuracy – Although the Bible is not a history book, archeological discoveries continue to prove its historical accuracy.
  • PROPHECY – But the errorless prophecy contained in the Bible is a KEY way it validates itself! Prophecy is the ability to - predict something BEFORE it happens. [Use the following Illustration]

FULFILLED PROPHECY ILLUSTRATION
Suppose someone predicted just
8 things about a person, any 8 things, for example:
  1. Date of birth
  2. Place of birth
  3. Number of siblings
  4. Occupation
  5. Name of wife
  6. Number of children
  7. Date of death
  8. Place of death
This might seem reasonably possible however, the chances of predicting all 8 is: 1 in 10 (to the 17th power)
(that’s 10 with 17 zeros - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000)!

To get a picture of this, let’s cover the state of Texas 2 feet deep in silver dollars. Hidden among them is 1 silver dollar marked with an “X”.
Then we’ll send someone “blindfolded” out to pick up just 1 coin.
The chances of them choosing the one with the “X” is: 1 in 10 (to the 17th power).

Yet - THERE ARE OVER 300 PROPHECIES (actually 333; most have already happened) ABOUT JESUS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT! What are the chances of that?

Then say:
*WELL, JUST FOR THE SAKE OF CONVERSATION, LET’S ASSUME that the Bible is the word of God.
  1. And return to where you left off in sharing the Gospel.
  2. If this precedes sharing the Gospel, ask, “May I share what I discovered the Bible says about how a person can experience eternal life?”

* By saying JUST FOR THE SAKE OF CONVERSATION, you’re NOT asking them to agree with you. Rather you’re simply seeking to begin, or continue, sharing the Gospel. This is a very valuable statement; don’t underestimate it – it’s worth memorizing.

CHRIST - Our Substitute

DIARY OF SIN STORY

Looking for a quick yet clear way to illustrate what Jesus did for us on the cross?

This short video shows how to visually explain that our sin separates us from having a right relationship with God. It shows how Jesus became God's perfect blood sacrifice for our sin.  And how Jesus made a way to remove the barrier of sin that causes us to feel guilty, shy away and seek to ignore or hide from God.
Jesus (the perfect God-man) never sinned. He didn't deserve to be punished. Yet Jesus willingly chose to take our place for the sin we deserve eternal punishment. He was God's way of providing a "perfect substitute".

This story demonstrates how we can now enter into a right relationship with God. A relationship where we can experience a life of peace, joy and love with our Creator - NOW. And a relationship with hope and assurance of life FOREVER in His loving presence.  Not that we deserve it, but - because of what Jesus has done for us!

Jesus (God in the flesh) genuinely loves each one of us so much that He stepped in to suffer the wrath of God poured out upon sin. Your sin. Sin which God hates. Yes, God demonstrated His love in that, "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us". (Romans 5:8)

Name Badge. Hello I am... Intentional
WE LEARN BEST BY DOING!
When it comes to witnessing, you learn best by doing whether you're just getting started or experienced and simply looking to improve.

THE PROBLEM:
Although many Christians know the importance of witnessing, most will go days (weeks) without thinking about sharing the Gospel and exposing someone to the Good News!

YET GOD HAS UNIQUELY PLACED YOU IN THE CENTER OF A NETWORK OF RELATIONSHIPS - A "SPHERE OF INFLUENCE" FOR HIS PURPOSE.

The BEST WAY TO GAIN CONFIDENCE AND COMPETENCE is to DO IT!
This doesn't mean forcing it to happen or...

Child evangelism class
"The harvest is great, but the workers are few. Pray..."
  • By helping kids clearly understand the Gospel you prepare them to share their faith... for the rest of their lives!
  • And you can be prepared to help those not yet born who will come into your children's ministry.
  • That's what happens by starting KIDS John 3:16 GOOD NEWS...made simple! evangelism training each year with your 7-8 year old kids. By doing so, every child coming up through your ministry will be prepared to join the Lord of the harvest in His kingdom building... for the rest of their lives.
Now that's an answer to prayer and a way to impact the next generation for the harvest!

SIX GOOD REASONS TO HELP KIDS SHARE THEIR FAITH:

1.  By establishing a deep, rich understanding of the Gospel and personal relationship with Jesus Christ in the formative years you strengthen your...

God sent you a friend request to confirm or delete
What would you do if God friended you?

That’s the question raised in a new CBS drama called God Friended Me about an outspoken atheist who gets an unexpected notification that the King of kings wants to be Facebook buddies.

Bewildered, he tries to get to the bottom of it, but in the meantime, grows more curious about the Almighty, who starts suggesting other friends and ultimately influencing the main character’s life.
So what about the real Lord above? Does the Creator of the Universe really want to be your friend?

Characteristics of Churches Doing Effective Evangelism

church doing Effective evangelism
EFFECTIVE CHURCHES
In effective churches, leaders nurture a culture of evangelism. They focus on a growing relationship with Christ. Emphasis is given to sharing our faith with others. Training in evangelism is common place. There is peer support and encouragement in doing evangelism; helping others to come into a personal relationship with Christ. Faith is alive as indicated by statements like, "I'm seeing answers to my prayers" "more sensitive to the Spirit's leading" "life feels better, I feel more significant" "more in touch with God" "interesting coincidences" "it's good to be a 'full time' Christian."

These are expressions of what we read in Philemon 6, "I pray that you will be active in sharing your faith so you come to a full understanding of all that we have in Christ." (NIV) They have come to know and experience more fully the difference being a Christian makes in their lives.
INEFFECTIVE CHURCHES
Ineffective churches indicate that they are not reaching the unchurched. Secondly, they say they do not have ongoing...

PRAYER AFFECTS EVANGELISM
It's important to be motivated by the mind and heart of Jesus. The best way to do that is to have God's Word at the heart of our lives. Also, witnessing is always more effective when we talk to God before we talk to people.

40 VERSES ON EVANGELISM

Below are 40 verses/passages related to the Gospel and evangelism. Take 40 days (1 verse per day) to prayerfully meditate on them embedding Christ's heart for evangelism into your soul. (You may want to Bookmark this page for future reference.) PRAYER BOOKMARK

Colossians 4:2-4 - Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

John 3:16 -  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Power source
POWER FROM GOD
A lifestyle of prayer, following the Holy Spirit's leading and focusing on the difference being a Christian makes in life today AND life forever will be a compelling empowerment from God, to share our faith.

REMEMBER - CONVERSION IS A PROCESS
Most people do not respond to the Gospel the first time they hear it. As Christians, we are all part of the process. Some plant seeds of faith. Others water and encourage a response towards Christ. But in the end, it's God...

Why Share Your Faith?

why should you share your faith
THE PRIMARY REASON
The Lord is at work in your heart giving you the desire to  help others come to experience what you have in Jesus Christ. He wants to see others come to experience the benefits of a personal relationship with Him. And because of His love, He wants to save others from the unnecessary hardships apart from that relationship both now and forever.

ONCE WE KNOW WHY WE SHOULD EVANGELIZE, WE'LL FIND A WAY TO DO IT!!!
